The Okavango is a labyrinth of lagoons, lakes and hidden channels covering an area of Okavango Delta over 17,000 square km and the largest inland delta in the world. Set in the parched Kalahari sands it is a magnet for the wildlife that depend on the permanent waters of this unique feature to survive. There are a wide variety of lagoons, islands and islets of various sizes, open grasslands and flooded plains in a mosaic of land and water that will captivate the heart and soul of all who visit here where more than 400 species of birds flourish in their natural habitat.

Other indigenous wildlife include lions, elephants, hyenas, wild dog, buffalo, hippo, crocodiles, antelope and other smaller animals, warthog, mongoose, spotted genets, monkeys, bush babies and tree squirrels which can all be viewed from the multitude of treks and guided walks that are to be found here. The most popular tourist attraction however is the Water based Game activity such as water-borne safaris that offer spectacular wildlife and general nature experiences plus sunset cruises along the Chobe River, Canoe rides or simply relax on a house boat on the river.
