More Information about Lake Naivasha
Lake Naivasha is at the highest elevation of the Kenyan Rift valley at 1,890 metres in a complex geological combination of volcanic rocks and sedimentary deposits from a larger Pleistocene era lake. The lake is home to a variety of types of wildlife including over 400 different species of bird such as the African fish eagle and a sizeable population of hippos and has a diverse array of fish including a massive population of the common Carp. It is the second largest freshwater lake in Kenya and the swirling inland winds which send 'dust devils' cavorting wildly across the plains make for ideal sailing.
One of the attractions here is Hell's Gate National Park which lies beside the lake, named for its pair of massive red tinged cliffs the park frames a geochemically active interior of steam vents and bubbling springs and is home to a profusion of plains game and birdlife. The most popular tourist attraction here is Safari and there are many tours that can be easily arranged to allow you to view this amazing environment in all its natural glory.
