More Information about Soussusvlei
Soussusvlei is Namibia's number one tourist destination, with good reason. When people think of Namibia the image that is conjured up is that of burnt ochre sand dunes, towering hundreds of meters above them in the incessant desert heat. Sossusvlei does not fail: it is home to the oldest sand dunes in the world; some are over 80 million years old. Sossusvlei is a huge ephemeral pan set amid towering red dunes that reach up to 325m (1066ft).
The dunes are part of the 32,000 sq km (12,355 sq mi) sand sea covering much of western Namibia, and belong to one of the oldest and driest ecosystems on earth. The landscape here is constantly changing as colours shift with the light and wind alters the dune shapes.
The most popular tourist attraction here is touring and there are many tours that can be easily arranged to allow you to view this amazing environment in all its natural glory.
