The Southern Right Whale frequents the local waters of South Africa from May – December. An estimated population of 12,000 are spread out through the southern areas of the Southern Hemisphere, with hundreds visiting Hermanus, the “capital of the cape whale coast” annually.

This area is world famous for the excellent Whale watching that is to be experienced here and this can be done simply by walking along the coast, while sipping coffee or enjoying a meal at one of the many excellent restaurants bars and cafes along the coast or for a more personal encounter you can take a boat ride out to meet them (these boats are permitted to approach the Whales as close as 50 meters but these curious creatures do have a tendency of wanting to get a little closer).
