Over the last decade Hermanus has become increasingly more popular with tourists due to its stunningly beautiful scenery, modern infrastructure and a multitude of adventure options ensuring that any visit will be fun for all the family. One such adventure option, and the main reason why Hermanus has become so famous is Whale watching. Hermanus has the status of being the best land-based Whale watching destination in the world allowing enthusiasts to view the Whales from the shore, boat or aeroplane and it is also home to the world's only Whale crier who blows his kelp horn when Whales are spotted along the central sea route. Other adventure options include shark cage diving, Rock lobster fishing tours, bird watching, water sports, golf, tennis, squash, bowls, canoeing, yachting, diving, surfing and much more. The town is also famous for The Hermanus Wine Route allowing connoisseurs to sample wines produced in the country's beautiful Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.

Although the town has become increasingly more modern over the years it has managed to retain some of its heritage including craft fairs, traditional music such as the Marimba band and the old harbour which is home to an array of restored fishing boats offering a reminder of the towns' origins and a glimpse of days gone by. Known as The Riviera of the South, Hermanus is only a short journey from Cape Town International Airport and is visited by nature lovers from all over the world especially around the month of July when its waters are visited by the special guests of honour, The Southern Right Whales, which gather in Walker Bay favouring the shallow waters for breeding and mating. Visitors can also take in the Fernkloof Nature Reserve located in part of the Cape Floral Kingdom which is the smallest but richest in the world or simply relax on the seemingly endless sandy white beaches before dining in one of the towns' wide array of restaurants (including one located in an old cave right on the seas edge) offering both local and international cuisine.
