South Africa is one of the best places on the planet to watch Whales and Plattenberg Bay offers just such an unbeatable opportunity with the Southern Right Whale frequenting these shores on an annual basis. In the bay the Whales mate, calve and generally hang out, occasionally raising a tail up, or sticking their heads out of the water to check out the humans.

The Whale presence in the bay is from mid-May to February with the Southern Right Whales around from June to November, the migratory Humpback Whales arrive with their calves early November and stay until the end of February and can be seen again during May and June.
