More Information about Pemba Island
Pemba Island, known as “The Green Island” is an island forming part of the Zanzibar archipelago, lying off the east coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean. Natural forests cover Pemba Island’s rolling landscape, along with plantations that collectively produce more cloves than Zanzibar.
A number of interesting ruins from the Shirazi era can be found here, as well as some lovely beaches that offer superb diving conditions. Traditional bullfights, a throwback to the Portuguese era, are sometimes held on Pemba. Pemba’s capital, Chake Chak is its largest town. It contains a post office, a hospital, and a bank that will exchange traveller’s cheques. It’s a great destination for travellers who want to get away from the tourist buzz and are happy with a more relaxed holiday.
The most popular tourist attraction here are the many beautiful beaches and lagoons which offer all who visit a chance to truly relax in a wonderfully tranquil environment.
