The indigenous orang-utan species (Pongo pygmaeus) of Borneo, Malaysia is a species of orang-utan native to the island and with the Sumatran orang-utan it belongs to the only genus of great apes native to Asia.
These amazing creatures are endangered but there are a number of rescue, rehabilitation and conservation projects in place here to help the continued survival of the species. Tours can easily arranged with expert guides to allow you to view these amazing creatures in their natural habitat or alternatively at one of the Orang-utan sanctuaries of Sepilok.
