Akbar`s Tomb is located ten kilometres from Agra in Sikandra. The construction was initiated by Akbar himself and completed by his son Jahangir in 1605 using both marble and red sandstone with Hindu and Muslim design elements in its construction. The complex is made up of two buildings, one is the mausoleum and the other is the titanic gate which is connected by a paved walkway.

The gate is called the Buland Darwaza (gateway of magnificence), a large archway with four marble minarets. The architecture of the mausoleum is stunning and also very interesting as is it a good example of the mixture of the use of sandstone together with marble. Expertly guided informative tours are easily arranged allowing you fully experience this fascinating tomb and its history.
