The Taj Mahal (Crown Palace) was constructed by Shahjanhan, the fifth Mughal emperor of the Mughal Era, for his mistress Mumtaz Mahal. Construction of this spectacular monument started in the year 1631 and was completed in 1653, it has been the inspiration for many artists and architects ever since.

This marble wonder is officially recognised as the seventh wonder of the world and is the largest and the most extravagant mausoleum ever constructed in the name of love by a single person. It took over 20,000 people to build the structure and a fleet of over 1000 Elephants to carry the materials which were brought in from all over India and Central Asia, Ahmad Lahori was the chief architect of the project.

The dome of the structure is made of beautiful white Marble set on the backdrop of the Yamuna River whose water reflections constantly change the colours of the monument during the day and during the evening the entire structure sparkles like a jewel in the moonlight when the semi-precious stones infixed into the white marble structure on the main mausoleum catch the glow of the moon. Expertly guided informative tours are easily arranged allowing you fully experience this fascinating temple and its history.
