The Botanic Gardens in Christchurch were founded in 1863 with the planting of an English Oak tree and now feature one of the finest collections of exotic and native plants found in New Zealand.

There are a wide variety of attractions to be found here including towering majestic trees (many of which are over 120 years old), extensive themed plant collections and sweeping lawns, horticultural displays, several conservatories, a restaurant and a cafe, memorials, garden art and walking tracks, stunning water fountains, a children`s playground and much more.

The gardens encompass a number of historic sites including a connection with Antarctic history and are now regularly used for cultural events.
