St. Barts & St. Martin
St Barths is the French island of the Caribbean where the beautiful people who summer on the French Riviera decamp to each winter. It is elegant and sophisticated, with outstanding restaurants, glorious beaches and an exciting, yet discrete nightlife.
Not only are the beaches of St. Barths blessed with dazzling, soft white sand and clear turquoise waters, they are rarely crowded (even in peak season) and are all public and free. From vast sandy stretches like Baie de St Jean to hidden coves, this small island has a beach to suit everyone.
The peak season is from late November to March, climaxing during the two-week Christmas/New Year period when prices rocket. St Barts is well worth considering over the European summer months of July and August, when the weather is usually fine and prices are low.
Half French and half Dutch, the nearby island of St Martin offers a vibrant nightlife, yet still a laid back atmosphere. The French side of the island is less developed than the Dutch and has wonderful beaches, many excellent restaurants and a distinctly cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Both St Barths and St Martin are a shopper’s paradise. As duty free ports, both islands boast a large range of leading brand luxury outlets.
