Sri Lanka
Known as the tropical teardrop of the Indian Ocean, this aptly shaped island of Sri Lanka is a bountiful and spirited land overflowing with natural and cultural wonders.
From the cool Tea Country and Cultural Triangle in the country’s interior to the curvaceous caramel sands on the coast Sri Lanka packs in a rich sense of culture, flavour and some pretty amazing panoramas. This small, island nation is a true testament to the old saying that “big things come in small packages”.
Galle
The capital of Sri Lanka’s southern province, Galle is a city with vibrant history. It’s at once endlessly exotic, bursting with the scent of spices and salty winds, and yet also, with its wonderful collection of Dutch-colonial buildings, a town of great beauty.
Kandy
Some days Kandy’s skies seem perpetually bruised, with stubborn mist clinging to the hills surrounding the city’s beautiful centrepiece lake. Delicate hill-country breezes impel the mist to gently part, revealing colourful houses and hotels amid Kandy’s improbable forested halo
Dambulla & Sigiriya
No visit to Sri Lanka is complete without visiting Dambulla and Sigiriya. Dambulla’s famed Royal Rock Temple is an important holy place rising from the central plains. The iconic rocky outcrop of Sigiriya is perhaps Sri Lanka’s single most dramatic sight. Near-vertical walls soar to a flat-topped summit that contains the ruins of an ancient civilisation.
The Beaches
Being an island, Sri Lanka is surrounded by beautiful golden beaches, certainly a feature not to be missed by any visitor. The East Coast is generally thought to have the finest beaches with Nilaveli and Pasikudah leading the way. The beaches in the west coast and the south coast are no less spectacular and hosts thousands of visitors each year.
Wildlife & Adventure
Sri Lanka has always been known for its population of elephants and leopards. However, with the oceans around the country opening up for exploration, whale and dolphin watching has become increasingly popular. With its varied terrain and climates for such a small island, Sri Lanka is an up and coming adventure destination. There is a multitude of land and water based activities being developed in Sri Lanka and the most popular of these is river rafting and kayaking.
