From Morocco in North Africa, to the nations that border with Central Asia, the Middle East has well-developed beach resorts and reliable sun, a rich history, fascinating culture, and often excellent cuisine. Diving and snorkelling in the Red Sea remain superlative; ancient sites, such as Petra and Jerash in Jordan, are enthralling. Sadly, some countries so rich in treasures from ancient civilisations like Egypt and most especially Syria are off limits, but countries like Israel, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Oman are experiencing a tremendous boost in visitors.
