Wildlife in Brazil

Brazil

It’s the exuberance of their carnival, the beauty of their people, the lilt of their music and the sheer extravagance of their lifestyle that must tempt most of us to visit Brazil at least once in our lives. But behind this joy of living that Brazilians seem to thrive on and is personified with images of Ipanema beach in Rio there lies an enormous country to be explored from the steaming tropical rainforests of the Amazon basin to the wildlife rich of the Pantanal wetlands.

The Brazilian Amazon

The Amazon Rainforest, which flows across nine countries covering six million square kilometres of land, is home to the greatest number of different species of wildlife and plant life on the planet. Home to sixty per cent of the Amazon jungle, Brazil is also the point from which this mighty flow of water, several hundred feet wide, empties into the Atlantic.

Bahia

The cultural melting pot that is Salvador da Bahia, Brazil’s music and culture capital, is also gateway to some of the most beautiful beaches Brazil has to offer.

The Pantanal

Wildlife lovers should head to this vast wetland that throngs with thousands of species of birds and animals: 10 million caiman share this area roughly half the size of France along with anacondas, anteaters, jaguars, capybaras, macaws, jabiru storks and much, much more.

Iguazú

Straddling the border with Argentina the world’s mightiest waterfall is one of the natural wonders of the world.
